The Theatre and its Double with Luke Kennard & Isabel Waidner

In their skewed and absurd new novels about actors and acting, award-winning experimental writers Luke Kennard and Isabel Waidner audition their main characters for their next major role: but this one won’t be on stage or screen…

Blurring the lines between the performance of the part and the performance of the self, Kennard’s Black Bag sees an out-of-work performer agree to take part in an unusual psychological experiment, sitting silently at the back of a lecture hall while zipped up into a large black holdall while in Waidner’s As If, a once household name switches places with an ordinary man he has only just met, both embarking on a detailed performance of the other man’s personal and professional lives.

In conversation with writer, theatre-maker and Artistic Director of Forced Entertainment, Tim Etchells.
