Restoration Levy FAQs

1. What is the restoration levy?

A restoration levy is a small contribution applied to each ticket. When booking, you will see this included alongside the ticket price. This contribution helps to support essential works to The Rep’s building, helping secure its future and the next generation of stories on our stages.

2. Why is a restoration levy needed?

Birmingham Rep has received vital funding from Arts Council England to carry out essential works to the theatre’s roof. While this funding covers the majority of the building costs, there is still a wider impact on our work during this period. This contribution helps us continue to create and share theatre, support emerging talent and work with our communities while these essential improvements take place.

3. What will the restoration levy support?

Income from the levy will support The Rep’s ongoing work during this period, including our artistic programme, community activity and support for artists and talent development.

It will help ensure we can continue to welcome audiences, create new work and serve our communities throughout this time and for decades to come.

4. How is this different from the ticket price?

The ticket price supports the costs of staging productions, including artists, creative teams and the day‑to‑day running of performances.

The levy is a separate contribution that supports The Rep more broadly, helping us continue our work during this period of change.

5. When will the levy be applied?

The levy is applicable to all tickets priced £13 and above (excluding school’s tickets)

6. Do I have to pay the levy?

Yes, the levy applies to most tickets as part of your purchase. We are committed to keeping this contribution as low as possible while ensuring it can make a meaningful difference.

7. Why is there both a booking fee and a restoration levy?

We keep all additional charges as low as possible. The booking fee covers the cost of processing your tickets, while the levy is a small contribution that helps us continue creating theatre and supporting our communities during this important period. Thank you for being part of The Rep’s future.

8. How long will the levy be in place?

The levy will remain in place during this period while essential works are carried out and the organisation is adapting to the changes that come with it. We will keep this under regular review.

9. What happens if a performance is cancelled?

In the unlikely event that a performance is cancelled, The Rep will be in touch with you directly and will follow its usual refund process.

The ticket levy can be refunded as part of your booking. If you would prefer, you are very welcome to donate this amount to support the work we do.
