Chair and Trustees (Closing Wednesday 14th August)

Birmingham Repertory Theatre – The Rep – incorporated in 1913, was the UK’s first purpose-built repertory theatre, the forerunner of the RSC and the National Theatre, and remains the country’s longest established building-based theatre company and one of its leading producing houses. For over 110 years, it has created and produced new works, ground-breaking revivals of the classics, and innovative, experimental work. Comprising three spaces – The House, The Door, and The Studio – and with stunning, recently renovated foyer spaces, The Rep is a pillar of the theatre sector, serving not only the community in Birmingham and the West Midlands but also regularly transferring productions to the West End and on national tours.

Currently in an exciting period of renewal, The Rep now seeks candidates for the role of Chair. The new Chair will play a crucial role in the next chapter of The Rep’s journey, appointing a new Artistic Director to join Chief Executive Rachael Thomas to lead the theatre. They will also appoint new Trustees in due course and drive the organisation’s strategic direction in conjunction with the new board and executive.

In addition, the Chair will be a lead advocate and ambassador for The Rep, will lead, support and enable the Board, and will support the highest quality of governance leadership in partnership with the Chief Executive and newly appointed Artistic Director. Candidates will have a passion for the arts and bring a strong track record of strategic leadership and good business acumen. They will be excited to engage externally and champion The Rep with local, regional and national stakeholders and partners and have a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in alignment with the mission and values of the organisation.

The Rep also seeks candidates to join the board as Trustees and are particularly interested in people who bring legal expertise and a background in senior HR management. Candidates should also demonstrate a passion for the Rep’s work, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on these appointments. For further information about the roles, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference JBQHA. Alternatively email Belinda.beck@saxbam.com.
