The Red Shoes
Presented by Rep Studio 8, The Rep’s intensive training programme for emerging actors.
When an orphaned young woman is taken in by a wealthy family, she’s expected to keep her head down and her spirit quiet. But when she slips on a pair of dazzling red shoes, her world begins to spin and her hunger for life and freedom can no longer be contained.
Rep Studio 8 bring to life Nancy Harris’s bold, contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s dark fairy-tale of dance, desire and destruction.
An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

Becky Deeks
Becky is a writer, director, and facilitator with over ten years experience working in the theatre industry. Having initially trained as an actor, she developed a love for directing and writing through working with the Young Rep and Red River Theatre.
Drawing on her own journey as a female footballer, she applied to Arts Council England who funded the writing and creation of Good for a Girl, her first full-length play. Having played for teams across the South East and the Midlands, Becky’s own prolific football experience gives her a unique perspective as the playwright.
Her previous written work has been performed at the Birmingham Rep, Midlands Art Centre, and The Atkins Gallery. Her work for film has been used at international human trafficking conferences. Becky is particularly focused on writing that will engage young people, new audiences and bring about social change.
