Sweeney Todd extended due to Popular Demand!

Ever since we announced that we’d be bringing a revival of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler‘s 12-time Tony Award-winning masterpiece – Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to our stages you’ve all come out in your droves! The Box Office phones have been ringing off their hooks, our social media DM’s filling up and of course, tickets selling quicker than hot pies!

And now that we’re officially only ONE MONTH away from opening we’ve decided to keep the pies in the oven a little longer, so…

We’re thrilled  to announce that we’re going to EXTEND the run of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street until Sat 15 Jul due to popular demand!

And! As a little treat to celebrate, here’s a delicious taste of what’s to come – Check out this brand-new video of Ramin Karimloo (Sweeney Todd) and Meow Meow (Mrs Lovett) singing a snippet from A Little Priest from their SECOND DAY OF REHEARSALS!

The video also features Dr John Rigby, the production’s Musical Supervisor, who has adapted the original orchestrations for the Rep; and, at piano, Leo Munby, Musical Director.

A razor-sharp story of retribution, this darkly comic and dramatic musical is a must-see, directed by our very own Artistic Director, Joe Murphy, who said:

I am delighted that we are extending the run of Sweeney Todd by another week. The show features one of the greatest scores ever written, and with the release of this video taken from our first few days of rehearsal, I’m pleased to give audiences a taste of what’s to come. The energy and richness of this darkly comic story is as powerful today as it was when it first premiered in 1979. It’s wonderful that excitement and interest in the show is so high, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it.”

Musical Supervisor Dr John Rigby, adds:

It’s such a thrill to be able to explore the genius of Sondheim’s score with this amazing company of actors. The level of detail, precision and musicianship that they are bringing to the rehearsal room, to say nothing of their vocal presence, is quite astounding. I can’t wait for us to share it with the audiences here at The Rep.”
