Feminist Justice
with Wendy Joseph KC & Harriet Wistrich
This event has passed
Wendy Joseph KC and Harriet Wistrich have spent decades working within the Criminal Justice System. Their experiences have left them with deep questions about what justice is and who the system works for, or more importantly, does not work for. Often those who are most vulnerable – women and girls – are the ones least likely to get justice.
In Rough Justice, Wendy Joseph KC, examines four gripping trials she presided over, comparing them to historical cases and miscarriages of justice. From the trial of a child charged with disposing of dismembered body parts, to the woman accused of killing her own husband, Rough Justice illuminates the struggles of anyone caught up in our legal system, particularly the marginalized and the easily exploited.
Harriet Wistrich has been at the forefront of some historic and ground-breaking legal victories, frequently working with women who have survived male violence or abuse and sometimes with the bereaved families of those who did not survive. Sister In Law offers unique insight into ten of her hard-won cases, including Sally Challen’s overturned conviction for the murder of her coercively controlling husband and the victims of the taxi driver and serial rapist John Warboys, shining a feminist light on the landscape of arcane laws and systems denying women justice.
