Laura Wade’s Alice offers a contemporary re-imagining of the classic Alice in Wonderland story, weaving together a turbulent landscape of grief and self-discovery. Teenage Alice, grappling with the devastating, sudden loss of her brother, embarks on a psychological journey through a fractured, larger-than-life world—one that blends the real and the fantastical.
In this strange, dream-like realm, Alice meets a host of characters and events: she takes tea with the Mad Hatter, engages in a chaotic game of croquet at the Queen of Hearts’ court, and even dances with some lobsters. These encounters, while entertaining and at times absurd, serve as metaphors for Alice’s attempts to come to terms with her grief, loss, and the complexities of growing up.
Accompanied by 2000s pop music and electric choreography, this version of Alice will bring a fresh, vibrant energy to an age-old story, blending the emotional depth of grief with a dynamic, modern twist.
