Open Door: Call for Submissions
The Rep is inviting proposals from early-career and emerging artists and theatre-makers to be part of Rep Rising 26, our Creative Learning Festival celebrating fresh voices, bold ideas and the next generation of talent.
About Rep Rising
This open call is an opportunity to propose scratch performances, sharing’s, works-in-progress or full productions in The Door. Those selected will perform as part of an exciting festival programme alongside artists from The Rep’s Young Rep and Rep Pathways programmes.
Rep Rising 26 Festival showcases an exciting programme of theatre performed by emerging talent from the Young Rep and Rep Pathways programmes at The Rep. Following on from the hugely successful trilogy of festivals – Order and Chaos, Love and Rebellion, and Home and Horizons – Rep Rising 26 will feature the first performance by our brand-new intensive training programme for emerging actors, Rep Studio 8. It will also include performances by all of our established groups and an original piece by our new devising musical theatre group, Young Rep Collective.
The festival will run from Wed 1 Jul – Sat 18 Jul, with the Door programming taking place between Wed 8 Jul – Sat 18 Jul.
About The Door
The Door exists to be a fizzing, fearless and combustible mix of experimentation and Talent Development, a space that shines a light on the power of communities to thrive through a collaborative approach to culture. The Door is the place to take risks, make names, and innovate the form.

What We’re Looking For
We welcome proposals for:
- Theatre scratch performances
- Work-in-progress sharings
- Full productions
- Solo or ensemble work
If you’re not sure if your idea fits into this, please send it in anyway.
We’re looking for artists who:
- Are early-career or emerging theatre-makers
- Are excited by experimentation, new ideas and creative learning
- Are able to independently manage their own project and performance
- Are West Midlands based or have a strong connection to the West Midlands.
You do not need to be represented or affiliated with an organisation to apply.
What We're Offering
- Time with our theatre technicians to work on basic lighting and sound for your project in The Door
- Access to The Door for additional rehearsal or performance time without technical support, if required
- Inclusion as part of the Rep Rising 26 Festival programme
- Marketing platform to share your work and ideas
- A 50/50 net box office split on ticket sales (for projects who would like to charge ticket fees)
Please note: beyond technical support, we are unable to provide producing or project management support. Artists must be able to manage their own work independently.

How To Apply

The deadline for submission is Mon 13 Apr at 5pm
You can also view our Application Guidance document before submitting your application.
Our Youth Board will be involved in the shortlisting of final applications.
You will be notified on or before Fri 8 May regarding the outcome of your submission.
We anticipate a high number of submissions. Due to capacity, we may not be able to offer feedback on individual proposals, but we will inform you of the outcome.
