Happy World Environment Day
An update on our continued journey towards improving sustainability

Back in 2023 The Rep declared climate emergency, and made an ongoing commitment to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainable choices: in our building, in our productions, and in increased awareness of how to reduce the environmental harm in our work.
As today (Thu 5 Jun) marks World Environment Day, we wanted to share some of the progress we have made over the last 12 months:
- We’ve eliminated plastic and paper cups on our bars – you may have already noticed that all of our drinks are now being served in glass.
- We have introduced 8 new ticket scanners which has reduced the need for ticket printing by 50%.
- Our Paint shop team have implemented a new system for washing paintbrushes that means fewer microplastics are being released into water streams.
- We ditched the diesel in favour of an electric van for our recent tour of Community. This meant that we generated 17kgC02e, whereas the same tour in a diesel van would have generated 56kgC02e.
- Another big achievement for Community was obtaining Theatre Green Book Intermediate standard, with 80% of materials used on the production having had a future life and 99% of materials going on to have a future life. We reused flooring from our previous production of Tartuffe and we also donated the set to King Edward’s Camp Hill School for Girls.
