Description

Thu 18 May, 2.30pm at the Deaf Cultural Centre
Fri 19 May, 6pm at Birmingham Repertory Theatre

In a unique partnership between the Deaf Cultural Centre and Birmingham Repertory Theatre, The Meeting is a moving, powerful and comic exploration of what it means to be excluded as an individual and of what we share in common as one community.

Performed almost entirely in BSL by deaf participants, The Meeting has been devised with the company from their stories and experiences to create a unique piece of theatre about how we don't need to hear in order to understand.

This is a work in progress sharing from the critically acclaimed writer and director Alexander Zeldin - whose previous work includes LOVE and Beyond Caring - and Associate Director Nyasha Gudo, an emerging director from The Foundry, the REP's artist development scheme.

★★★★★ “Gripping, amusing, uncomfortable, desperately moving”
The Times on LOVE

★★★★ “Quietly devastating…compelling”
Lyn Gardner, The Guardian on Beyond Caring

Created in collaboration with members of Birmingham's Deaf Cultural Centre and supported by The National Theatre.
