Description

Open Door gives The DOOR over to West Midlands based playwriting groups to have the space to test their new plays in front of invited audiences.

Monday 9 January – Bold Text Collective

Insatiable

Have you got an empty bank account, a tight waistband and a pile of unwanted Christmas presents cluttering up the house?

Get down to The REP where BOLDtext's Stephen Jackson, Liz John, Vanessa Oakes and Julia Wright will be exploring the politics of consumption and questioning why we all want so much more than we need.

Bring along all your unwanted Christmas presents, as after the show we'll be hosting an Unwanted Christmas Present Swap with any leftovers donated to local charity.

These script-in-hand new writing nights are very popular so it's always best to reserve your ticket in advance.

It's free to book then pay-what-you-can on the night.

Friday 5 May – Cucumber Writers

Monday 22 May – Bold Text Collective

Curated, managed and produced by the groups themselves, this season of Open Door sees the space being claimed by the Cucumber Writers Group and the Bold Text Collective. The Cucumber Writers Group grew out of The REP's Write Away playwriting programme, they meet regularly to share, make and develop new writing. BOLDtext Playwrights are eight West Midlands-based playwrights who collaborate to create more opportunities and platforms for their work.

For more information on the writers groups and the work they might present please contact the Cucumber Writers on cucumberwriters@gmail.com and The Bold Text Collective on boldtextcollective@gmail.com or at boldtextcollective.wordpress.com.

For further details on the Open Door initiative and other new writing programmes at The REP please contact Lynette Dakin on lynette.dakin@birmingham-rep.co.uk.
