The world's biggest festival of hip hop dance theatre comes to The REP for the first time! The whole building will be transformed as the action spills off the stage for an unforgettable two-day celebration of hip hop.
The REP will house all things hip hop with dance workshops, graffiti displays, a film screening, poetry, DJs and free style sessions. These free daytime events are suitable for the whole family and mean that not only can you see Breakin' Convention, but you can be a part of the festival too!
The evening shows are based around the best of hip hop dance both from around the world and just around the corner. Three of the world's most exciting dance groups - Just Dance, the Soweto Skeleton Movers and Tentacle Tribe - will be performing on both days. Just Dance are some of the very best dancers in the hip hop scene and their fusion of break dance and Korean culture has won numerous competitions across the globe. The Soweto Skeleton Movers are masters of the breathtaking Pantsula style of dance which is inspired by jumping on and off moving trains and tap! The Montreal-based dance company, Tentacle Tribe creates unique dance works with a contemporary twist, using conceptual hip hop and influences from all types of earthly creatures.
Each day will also see a selection of the best local talent performing. On 2 June Rhythm Junkiez, Jigsaw Collective Street and Dance Academy (SDA) perform and on 3 June we welcome Broken Silence, Nuvo Origin and Marshon. Plus, City of Colours will be creating a bespoke mural over the two days, so you can see their amazing graffiti artists at work.
