Marco D'Agostin

Locked together in the aftermath of Cyclops's gaze, two dancers try to fill their new blasted world with meaning. Blending languages, fragments of half-remembered stories, incomplete movement sequences and pop culture moments, Avalanche is a show desperately piecing together meaning in search of an outcome.

Avalanche was nominated for the Best Dance Show at Itay's prestigious Ubu AWARDS in 2018.

Supported by O Espaco do Tempo, Centrale Fies, PACT Zollverein, CSC/OperaEstate Festival, Tanzhaus Zurich, Sala Hiroshima and ResiDance XL.

Running time: 45 minutes.

Yellow Place

Like the briefest of encounters, two strangers are swept into a fast and passionate relationship. It builds and climaxes so quickly, that we are left in a warm yellow place of nostalgia, wondering what might have been. Yellow Place is a beautifully choreographed exploration of personality and changing passions. Kor'sia were awarded second prize at Copenhagen International Choreography Competition.

Running time: 12 minutes.

BE Next Company

Inclusivity is at the heart of BE FESTIVAL's manifesto and BE Next is testament to our ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for young people to learn life skills through performing arts. Alongside two other workshops in the spring and autumn, the annual festival performance is the culmination of a week's summer workshopping by local 14-19 year olds in Birmingham. It can take any shape and any form but it's always a highlight of our Saturday night. The project is specifically aimed at young people who speak English as an additional language and come from marginalised backgrounds.

“BE Next is an art itself. For me, it is a programme designed to better yourself and break past barriers and limits”
Mohammed Irfan Arshad - Participant

Running time: 15 minutes.

Supported by Amal - a Saïd Foundation programme.

Tom Cassani
Someone Loves You Drive With Care

A welcome return for last year's first prize-winner at BE, with an extended version of Someone Loves You Drive With Care. Tom Cassani is a performance artist and a liar. A crafty specialist of deception, he questions our collective construction of truth and lies, often challenging the borders of his own body using blunt and scary looking objects; akin to the classic sideshow stunts made famous in vintage US circus. His trickery and disposition for deceit is enabled by his remarkable sleight of hand exposing deceptive techniques. Professionally trained in prestidigitation, all Tom's work uses deceit as an artistic platform, exploring subjects of truth, honesty and manipulation.

Co-commissioned by hÅb + Contact for Works Ahead. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England. Part of the SPILL National Platform 2016

Running time: 50 minutes.

Warning: Please note that this show contains images that some people may find distressing. Age recommendation: 16+ at an adult's discretion.

Glyn Phillips

DJ and radio jock Glyn Phillips is back for his usual spot at BE, only this time he'll be the soundtrack to our Closing Party shenanigans. BE FESTIVAL just wouldn't be the same without his floor-filling 'Global Sound Clash' DJ and live percussion workouts. Expect exuberant Afro-Latin grooves, Salsa-Soul, Balkan-Beats, Global-Funk, Hi-Life and so much more.
