REP Foundry Festival: Introducing Subtitled
Michael Southan, REP Foundry Writer, chats to us about his new play Subtitled, which features an epic soundtrack of tunes that shines a light on the importance of music in our lives...
Can you tell us more about Subtitled?
Subtitled is a one person show about music and deafness. It asks, what can we learn from music. Not only about ourselves but also the people we love, and how we process our thoughts.
What can the audience expect from the show?
Audiences should expect quite an intimate show with some really great songs too!
Why is the show important to you?
Subtitled is important to me because it's a play about disability and a journey through that. We need to see more diverse stories on stage.
Where did your inspiration come from for the piece?
The initial inspiration behind Subtitled was when my family bought a vintage record player and we began sharing old vinyls. It made me realise how important music can be and how it connects us.
What would you say to someone who has not yet booked for REP Foundry Festival?
You should all book a ticket to REP Foundry Festival because it consists of several Midland voices telling the stories they really care about, and REP Foundry really champions that.
Subtitled plays as part of REP Foundry Festival 2018 on Wednesday 21 November, 7.30pm and Saturday 24 November at 2pm. Both performances will feature captioning.
