Our Young REP launch the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2016
To mark the start of the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2016, members of our talented youth theatre company, the Young REP, performed to audiences at the press night performance of Treasure Island.
This special night in The REP's calendar coincided with the start of the national fundraising initiative and the performance was the perfect way to launch the Christmas Challenge. The young performers rose to the occasion and treated audience members to some swashbuckling story telling!
Along with more than 300 UK charities, The REP is thrilled to be part of The Big Give Christmas Challenge for the 3rd consecutive year. The Challenge is a great opportunity for members of the public to have their donations DOUBLED by giving online during these dates. This year, we're aiming to raise £6000 to fund our Young REP youth theatre bursaries which would enable us to offer 30 disadvantaged young people a positive and life-enriching opportunity.
As one of the UK's leading theatres, learning and participation is central to our work. The Young REP works with participants aged between 7and 25 giving them valuable experience of interacting with other young people which in turn helps to improve social skills and really boost their self-esteem. Unfortunately some local young people are not able to afford to join in and benefit from the skills and confidence that drama and theatre can supply, due to circumstances beyond their control.
At The REP, we believe a passion for theatre is something that should be shared and accessible to all. By providing bursaries, we can offer a life-changing opportunity to a range of young people, including those who have not successfully engaged with mainstream education and are in need of positive influences and experiences. Through the Big Give and subsequent bursaries, we are aiming to diversify our youth theatre and ensure it is representative of the city of Birmingham.
At the half way point in the Challenge, we are extremely grateful to those who have donated so far. As a registered charity, The REP relies on the generosity of its donors to sustain its work both on stage and in the community. Please take part in the Big Give if you can before 12pm Tuesday 6 December and your donations will be doubled.
How you can help?
If you believe in the power of theatre and can help us make a difference to a young person's life then please donate online between 12 noon on Tuesday 29 November and 12 noon on Tuesday 6 December 2016. Your valuable donation will be DOUBLED thanks to existing REP donors and The Big Give's philanthropic partner, The Reed Foundation.
Thank you for helping The REP to make a difference this Christmas.
