Levi Roots Creates Rasta Inspired Dishes For Birmingham Repertory Theatre

Levi Roots Creates Rasta Inspired Dishes For Birmingham Repertory Theatre

Celebrity chef Levi Roots has created some special Ital dishes for our restaurant Marmalade in celebration of the world premiere of One Love: The Bob Marley Musical.

Inspired by the food that Bob Marley would have eaten, Levi Roots' Ital dishes will be available from 10 March – 15 April in Marmalade, The REP's bar and restaurant.

Ital is a plant-based diet and Levi's dishes that he has created for The REP are full of natural ingredients - Ital Carrot and Sweet Potato Soup and Okra, Cashew and Tofu stir fry.

Ital is the food that Bob Marley would have eaten and part of the Rastafari culture, which dictates that its followers should eat food grown from the earth around them, unmodified.   Rastafarianism is a deeply spiritual culture, based on respecting the earth and life around you – living from the land and honouring the value of liberation and oneness.

Levi Roots said:

Bob Marley was the number one rasta, he's inspired a whole world including me and is one of the greatest musicians to have walked the planet. Creating some special Ital dishes to celebrate the opening of One Love: The Bob Marley Musical, is one of the most exciting things I've been asked to do. All the dishes use natural ingredients and includes one of my all time favourite dishes, Ital soup. I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the fresh flavours and vibes that the food will bring.

Paul Reece, Head of Marketing at Birmingham Repertory Theatre said:

We wanted to create an interesting, engaging and authentic environment surrounding our production of One Love: The Bob Marley Musical. Bob Marley is such a powerful and loved icon that we feel we owe it to our visitors and to his memory for people to have the opportunity to learn a little about the culture and influences that inspired Bob to greatness. We thought about food, Rastafarianism and music and that lead us straight to Levi Roots.

Levi Root's Ital dishes will be available as part of the main menu in Marmalade at The REP until 15 April. To book a table call 0121 245 2080 or email hello@marmaladebirmingham.co.uk

One Love: The Bob Marley Musical runs from 10 March – 15 April.
