Foot In The DOOR – The World Of Stage Management
We caught up with Tasia from Oldbury, who is taking part in Foot In The Door at The REP this week.
Working with Birmingham Repertory Theatre via Foot In The Door, we have had the opportunity to experience theatre from behind the scenes.
Today's venture into the world of Stage Management has been both eye opening and thrilling. I've discovered just how much work goes into accumulating the many specific props for a show, before rehearsals have even began. Through practical games such as 'Supermarket Sweep,' we competed in teams roaming the labyrinth basement of The REP searching for pub themed props in preparation for a cueing exercise. The last two exciting days have sparked so much interest, meeting new people and exploring what goes into putting on just one show, including the things you wouldn't even consider as an audience member.
We've also had healthy discussions about fundraising for the creative sector which have highlighted the need for the arts in our society and therefore the necessary support of the arts as part of our country's culture. If you have the privilege of working with the hilarious, hardworking people at The REP take the chance; so far this workshop has been extremely educational and insightful to me which will only increase as the week goes on.
