The REP runs 15 youth theatre companies across Birmingham as well as providing summer schools and work experience placements for young people.
The Young REP is Birmingham Repertory Theatre's youth theatre company, working with young people aged 7–25 across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Young people work with professional theatre makers to create and produce a broad range of high quality theatrical experiences. All of our members will perform at Birmingham Repertory Theatre during their year.
The REP runs 15 youth theatre companies for across Birmingham for children and young people aged 7 to 25. We also run special projects in the school holidays at the theatre. Some of these projects might just last a day and some them could be a week or longer. Check this page to stay up to date with our projects and opportunities for children and young people.
Young REP @ The REP
Groups meet at The REP on week nights and on Saturdays, the cost per term is £57.50.
How to Join
All of our Young REP groups are full at the moment and new spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis. To be added to our database you will need to send us an expression of interest form which can be downloaded by clicking the link on the right hands side of this page.
Complete and return (post or email) the form and you will be notified by email when spaces become available and will also receive invitations to one-off workshops and summer schools.

Young REP Juniors
These groups are for children in school years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and aims to build on the young people's interest in drama and theatre to further develop their skills. Juniors meet between 10.00 and 11.30 every Saturday in term time. Past productions have included Christopher William Hill's Ittullkyllyooiffyoodoo , The Day The Stories Went, Douglas Maxwell's PROM and Grace Barrington's The New Kid.
Young REP Intermediates
Our three intermediate companies are for young people in years 7 to 9 and aim to enhance their skill base to the next level. Intermediates meet 12:00 until 14.00 on a Saturday OR 18.00 until 20.00 on a Tuesday evening. Past productions have included Anthony Clark's adaptation of The Red Balloon, Grace Barrington's The New Kid and devised show PANIC!!!.
Young REP Seniors
We have two companies for young people in years 10 to 13 whose focus is on gaining professional experience as well as performing new plays and updated classics. Seniors meet between 14.30 a. Past productions have included the world premiere of Evan Placey's Girls Like That, Matthew Bond and Ian Farnell's Pies Tomorrow and Bryony Lavery's More Light.
Young REP 18 – 25 Company
This company is for young adults who have a strong interest in and commitment to theatre. Young REP 18–25 Company meet on a Monday evening and work on a series of projects and productions throughout the year. Past productions include a new take on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Amid Some Nights (A Dream) and Hamlets – which was performed across 9 floors of the new Library Of Birmingham at night.
Young REP Satellite Groups
The Young REP is partnered with a number of schools/organisations to run extra-curricular youth theatre groups across the region. Students develop drama skills and collaborate to produce devised productions that they perform at The REP.
If you attend one of our partnered schools and would like to join your Young REP satellite group, contact your drama teacher to find out more. These groups are for students of these schools only.
Previous performances by our Satellite groups include made In The Midlands, Ask A Fish to Climb a Tree, Decadence, I'm School Kid Get Me Out Of Here, Baghdad Zoo and Dark Age.

In addition to our main youth theatre companies, The REP runs one-off workshops and summer schools, both independently and in partnership with other organisations. We run summer schools and Holiday Clubs most years and these are often open to young people who are on our Young REP database. For children aged 7-12, you can take part in Spy School 2017 an interactive week-long adventure where participants learn spy skills and save the world.

For young people aged 13-18, The REP is working in collaboration with mac Birmingham to offer an exciting week of working with Shakespeare in fun and fresh ways. During the week participants will rehearse an abridged, engaging version of one of his plays and on the last day it will be performed the Arena Theatre in Cannon Hill Park.
