While you're here

If you’ve never been to The REP before you may have a few questions. We’ve tried to answer them all here, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for then you can contact us at hm@birmingham-rep.co.uk.

What to Wear

We know that some people worry about what to wear to the theatre, and the answer is… whatever you like! Whilst some people like to dress up in their very best clothes to enjoy a special night out at the theatre, you’ll find equally as many in jeans and casual clothes.

Latecomers

It’s best to aim to arrive well before the advertised starting time of the show you’re coming to see – if you need to collect your tickets from Box Office there may be a queue at the last minute. The doors to the auditorium usually open around 30 minutes before the show starts – you’ll hear an announcement over the public address system in the foyer and bar areas.

We understand that sometimes lateness is unavoidable, and we will do everything we can to make sure that you can still enjoy your evening. In the Main House, we will generally allow admission at some point during the first half, and one of our Ushers will help you to a seat.

We do have a strict ‘No Latecomers’ policy in The Door, to minimise disruption to other customers.

Programmes/Merchandise

Many shows at The REP have an accompanying programme available to purchase. Programmes are available from the Cloakroom counter or from the Ushers on the doors to the auditorium.

If you would prefer a simple cast list, these are available free of charge from the cloakroom counter. Some shows also have a range of merchandise available for you to buy as a memento of your visit.

Phones/Cameras/Video cameras

Please turn your mobile phone (or any other noisy gadgets) to silent before you come into the theatre. Cameras, video cameras and any other kind of recording equipment are strictly not allowed in the auditorium.

Cloakroom

The Cloakroom can be found at the end of the Foyer nearest the bar. It opens 90 minutes before a Main House show or 45 minutes before a Door show. You can check coats, bags and pushchairs for a charge of 50p.

You can purchase programmes, scripts and merchandise here before, during and immediately after a performance. Headsets for our infrared system for customers with hearing difficulties or for Audio Described performances can be collected from here for a returnable deposit of £5.

The Cloakroom is always staffed during a performance and should be your first point of call should you require any advice or assistance. Some of our Front of House staff have been here since the theatre opened and are very knowledgeable about our work and the city!

Intervals

Most performances have an interval of about 20 minutes partway through the show, where you can get a drink or an ice cream, have a comfort break or simply remain in your seat and read your programme. If you would like to pre-order a drink to avoid queuing in the interval, please ask at the bar before the show.
