Writing in Rhyme

Writing in Rhyme

Has the way in which the play is written in rhyme presented any problems? How have the actors found it working with such an unusual script?
The language is very heightened and artificial which is a decision Caryl Churchill made to reflect the artificial world these bankers were living in. I think it’s a great dramatic device, but the characters do need to appear realistic to the audience. The language is heightened but there’s a truth and very much a realism to those people even though what they say and the world they interact in is a heightened version of reality. The people in that world were totally enamoured by the artificial bubble they were living in and I think that is reflected beautifully in the language.
