Challenges
What have been the challenges whilst directing this production?
The story has been challenging to tell as it is effectively about a young man’s suicide and the potential take over of a small British firm, but whilst doing that we have had to try to portray the world and the atmosphere of the 1980s through the perspective of the world of banking. I think that while merging those two things it could be very easy for it to become a nostalgic or dated piece so we’ve tried to avoid that. One really important aspect of putting this production together is making it relevant and prescient to what is happening today not only in the world of finance but also to everyone in society. The fact that the credit crunch has been foremost in the news recently makes the play incredibly timely and prophetic in what it can say to an audience now 20 years after it was written.
