Cast And Characters

George Khan

George Khan, 55, is the head of the household. He is both intransigent and violent, and the root of the family conflict.

Played by Archie Lal.

Ella Khan

Ella Khan mother, 46, is George’s second wife. Hardworking and no nonsense, she is mother to seven children.

Played by Belinda Lang.

Abdul Khan

Abdul Khan, 23 is the second eldest of the Khan children. He is caught in the family conflict. Desperate for his father’s approval and loyal to his family, he goes on the longest journey during the play.

Played by Chris Nayak.

Tariq Khan

Tariq Khan, 21, is a handsome, party-loving rebel who rejects his Asian heritage, calling himself Tony when outside the family home.

Played by Darren Kuppan.

Maneer Khan

Maneer Khan, 19, is a religious Muslim who believes that his family will never be regarded as properly ‘English’.

Played by Tom Reed.

Saleem Khan

Saleem Khan, 18, is an art student who pretends to be studying engineering to appease his family.

Played by Johndeep More.

Meenah Khan

Meenah Khan, 16, is the only Khan daughter. She is a loud tomboy who favours kicking a ball to wearing a sari.

Played by Anjli Mohindra.

Sajit Khan

Sajit Khan, 12, observes the unfolding family drama from beneath the hood of his snorkel parka. He is the butt of jokes and teasing but emerges at the end of the play as a self confident teenager.

Played by James McGlynn.

Auntie Annie

Auntie Annie, 50, is a longstanding family friend and confidante to Ella.

Played by Sue Wallace.

Other Characters

Nazir (never seen) is the eldest Khan son. He has left the family home having fleed an arranged marriage, and has escaped to live in Eccles as a hairdresser, disowned by his father.

Mr Shah, 52, is the father of the girls George hopes will become the wives of Abdul and Tariq.

Played by Simon Nagra.
