Style and Design

How does the style and design of this production influence your direction?
NF: The design is born out of my vision for the production. I wanted to create an almost ‘freaky fairy tale,’ dark and macabre type of world and I thought Colin [Richmond, Deisgner] would be best for that. It took about a year to get from our very early discussions to what you now see on stage.

How are you going to create the ghosts on stage?
NF: In this high tech, over-produced modern world I felt very strongly that it would be nice to go back to Victorian theatrical devices in creating the ghosts so we use traditional things like trap entrances and a canon explosion that someone can enter through. So in that sense we’re using old fashioned techniques to create spectacle and illusion.
