The Process
The process as you say was complicated, how did it work?
We had lots of translators. Although there was a shortcut of English as a number of people spoke a little English, we didn’t want to go down that route as it wouldn’t have given equality to the process.
Improvisations were a mix of non verbal and with actors using their own languages. Discussions took more time as each suggestion or comment had to be said/ translated three times before it could be responded to. It did however give us time to think and made us aware that everything we said was precious; so we tried not to waffle on. It was good discipline and we got to know the best way of dealing with this way of working.
Sometimes the meaning of things got lost in translation though and we soon found that the biggest mistake you could make was thinking that everything has been understood by everyone and then later find that they hadn’t.
