The showdown

Will arrives at the cave and tries to wake Lyra. She is heavily drugged. Mrs Coulter enters. Will desperately tries to cut a window to another world but Mrs Coulter keeps distracting him. She wants him to take her too. Will resists. Then Chevalier Tialys and Lady Salmakia appear beside her. The Gallivespians sting her ankle. She screams and falls to the ground.

Lord Asriel’s army arrives. He demands Will give him the knife. Will again tries to concentrate and cut the window. But there are too many distractions and the effort causes the knife to shatter. At this point the Church’s army arrive.

A battle erupts and in the confusion Will is able to drag Lyra from the cave and escape.
