Mrs Coulter recaptures Lyra

Will has woken. The pain in his hand is excruciating; it has become gangrenous. Serafina comes to him and explains that she must go in search of Ruta Skadi who is in a fury about Jopari, and Serafina is worried about what she might do.

Pantalaimon is also awake. Usually, daemons can not touch other people as they are inherently connected to their own human, but Pantalaimon reaches out to comfort Will. Will is grateful and explains to Pantalaimon that Lyra is the best friend he’s ever had. Listless and in agony Will decides to go for a walk.

Lyra has overheard Will and Pantalaimon’s conversation and she is very touched. She realises that she has very deep feelings for Will. At that moment the Golden Monkey appears quickly followed by Mrs Coulter. Caught off guard, with no Will, and witches that are defenceless against the spectres without the subtle knife, Lyra is recaptured.
