Mrs Coulter and Lord Boreal in Cittagazze

Mrs Coulter strikes a deal with the spectres. She feeds them a human soul (the old man Giacomo Paradisi) and they leave her and Lord Boreal alone. The children of the town stand and watch as Giacomo is ‘frozen’ by the spectres, and they seem unmoved and even slightly amused by his death.

Mrs Coulter questions them about Lyra and Will and they tell her about them going in the direction of the Blue Mountains with the witches. Mrs Coulter bribes the children with chocolate to lead her and Lord Boreal there.
