In the laboratory

The doctors take Lyra to a Laboratory. There’s a machine with an operating-chair and a small cage and a guillotine-blade between the two. Lyra is thrown on to the chair. Dr. West puts on plastic gloves, prior to manhandling Pantalaimon away from Lyra. Dr. West grabs Pantalaimon and puts him in the cage. The parting is agonising for both him and Lyra. The bond between Lyra and Pantalaimon is made visible. Mrs Coulter appears and yells for the doctors to stop.
