Rehearsals
Talk me through a typical day in rehearsal
Will Typically, the day starts with sitting down with the two directors, Rachel and Sarah, and talking about the focus of the day and whether we are going to change any of the calls for the actors. By this I mean whether we are going to stick to the running order of scenes or whether any new priorities have emerged. Then we’ll systematically work through the scenes.
I’ll often be involved in very practical things like remembering how we have blocked specific moments, but what’s very important to me as a trainee director is to contribute my own ideas.
There are a plethora of creative people in the rehearsal room so it is easy to remain silent. It could be argued that sometimes in rehearsals there are a few too many cooks! Actors don’t need five people giving them feedback, so I contribute where I feel I have something really meaningful to say.
