Questions For Discussion
The play explores many issues around science, schools discipline, pressure on teachers and their relationship with pupils. Below are a few key questions that arise from the play that could be discussed in class.
- David wants to “go back and fix all this”. He thinks that “those Boys at CERN” can make it possible to turn the clock back. If this were possible what do you think he would do differently?
- If you could travel back in time would you change anything? Why? Who would you like to meet?
- Are the events in the play inevitable, could they have been avoided?
- Whose fault is it that Kyle is hurt? What would have to be different to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again? What needs to change to make things better?
- Is the play critical of anyone? Who?
- Do you agree with David when he says of Reece “He needs to be brought down a peg or two?”
- He also asks “So what are we meant to do with Reeces of the world in the mean time?” What do you think should be done with “The Reeces of the world?”
- Why do you think the playwright Arzhang Pezhman called the play Gravity?
