Help And Further Information

All the characters in Gravity have different issues that relate to emotional well-being. They all experience anxiety and stress to different degrees.

Everyone feels stress and anxiety at some time in their life. For some people it might be feeling troubled and unhappy, for others it can become hard to cope and impossible to continue with their ordinary lives. In the play, David has just returned to work after some time off due to depression.

Most large organisations like schools will have someone whose job it is to look after the emotional and mental health of the other people there; it is their job to be available to talk any problems over.

  • Who is that person where you are?
  • Who else might be good to talk to?

Here are some contact details of organisations that may be able to help if you or someone you know might be affected by any of the issues in the play. Your GP will also be able to refer you to people that may be able to help.

The Samaritans 08457 90 90 90
Samaritans provides confidential emotional support 24/7 to those experiencing despair, distress or suicidal feelings.

Childline 0800 1111
You can get help and advice about a wide range of issues, talk to a counsellor online, send ChildLine an email or post on the message boards.

CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) 0121 465 3863
There is a special service for children and young people with emotional problems. It is called the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The staff are specially trained and they have a lot of experience of talking with children and their parents or carers. This is a link to Birmingham’s CAMHS, and other areas have similar services. Referrals are normally through other organisations like schools or GPs, but they can offer advice over the phone.
