Jean

Jean, 29, is of Scottish descent, though there is little trace of it in her mezzo-soprano voice. She is Arthur’s girlfriend, although as his wife has only recently died, thay have maintained a platonic relationship.

Played by Kirsty Hoiles.

George

“half Indian, behatted, neatly and respectably dressed, and carrying a case of papers”

George has a Scottish mother and a Parsee father, who is a clergyman of the Church of England. Until his imprisonment, George was a practising solicitor.

Played by Chris Nayak.

Arthur

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the worl famous author of the Sherlock Holmes detective novels. Arthur, 47, is a large, burly man with a still distinct Scottich accent and an impressive moustache.

Played by Adrian Lukis.

Maud

“…highly fragile disposition”

Maud, 25, is George’s sister. She is small, and dresses plainly but formally.

Played by Anneika Rose.

Woodie

Woodie is in his 30s. A former schoolmaster, Woodie is now Arthur’s assistant.

Upton

Upton, in his 30s, is a ruddy faced police sergeant.

Meek

Meek, in his 40s, is George’s solicitor.

Vachell

Vachell, in his 50s, is a cheerful and corpulent barrister.
