Workshops
If you are planning to bring a school party to one of The REP’s productions, or would like to follow up your students’ theatre visit, why not book a workshop?
Workshops are led by one of our Education Officers and explore text, characters and theatre genres. Using fun games, role-play and devising techniques, the workshops strengthen students’ understanding and appreciation of the production. These workshops are designed to take place in your school hall or drama studio, and cost £100 for a one and a half hour session, which can accommodate up to thirty pupils.
To book, call the Learning & Participation Department on 0121 245 2092.
Theatre Days
Theatre Days take place on our main stage prior to selected matinee performances and offer students a unique insight into the creative process involved in putting on a main stage production. Rehearsal techniques, acting, directing, lighting, sound, stage management as well as themes, characters and issues contained in the text are all explored during these events.
Work Experience
The REP is offering a limited number of week long placements for year 10 and 11 students during the weeks beginning 29 June and 6 July 2009, working in a variety of different departments and roles within the theatre.
You can apply for a work experience place by calling Kam Manku at Education Business Links Birmingham and Solihull on 0121 423 8286 for an application form. The closing date for applications is 27 March so please note that if you do submit a form you will not hear from us until after that date.
If you are a college or university student and are interested in a placement at The REP, email workexperience@birmingham-rep.co.uk
Please note that The REP is unable to offer long term or paid placements.
Backstage Tours
Backstage tours provide a fantastic opportunity for your students to go behind the scenes of one of the largest stages in the country. We can even tailor tours to focus on areas of particular interest to your group.
Backstage tours cost £3 per person – telephone the Learning & Participation Department on 0121 245 2092 to book.
Guidelines for bringing your school to The REP
We strive to ensure that The REP is a welcoming and accessible venue for schools and colleges. REP staff will be available to support and assist you and your group and answer any queries you may have during a school visit to the theatre. However, whilst we will do everything we can to support you, you will have ultimate responsibility for your group. We have therefore put together guidelines and information for you and your students, which we hope will be helpful and assist in ensuring rewarding visits to the theatre.

Drama Network
The Drama and Creative Learning Network provides an opportunity to share good practice and explore creative approaches to learning through a programme of interactive CPD events. The programme includes an interactive web forum and workshop events at The REP and in schools. Through this, members will have access to leading theatre practitioners and drama in education specialists, and will gain opportunities to collaborate with other teaching professionals. The network is open to all teachers, creative practitioners and educationalists who are interested in creative learning, and those that have an interest or specialism in drama.
