Telford Teenagers Invited to Apply for the Experience of a Lifetime!

An International Theatre Exchange to Canada for Young People aged 14-16 years old

Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Telford Find Your Talent are working together to send 12 Telford Young People aged 14 to 16 years to Canada to perform a brand new piece of theatre!

From March until July 2010, the selected young performers will work to create a brand new piece of theatre that will be premiered at a gala performance in Calgary, Alberta, Canada alongside the Calgary Young People’s Theatre. This 10 day international exchange will give participants the opportunity to meet and work with Canadian young people and become immersed in a different culture whilst sharing their own.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Youth Theatre Director Christopher Gorry, who will direct the performance said,

“This is a really exciting opportunity for young people in Telford. The project is being funded by Telford Find Your Talent, which means that the cost to the young people is heavily subsidised; opening the opportunity to a wider selection of young people. I think it’s going to be a really amazing opportunity for everyone involved, theatrically and culturally.”

In the summer of 2011 the young people from Canada will visit Telford and take part in a selection of cultural and theatrical experiences here in the UK, as well as again premiering a new piece of theatre with the Telford young people.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre are very pleased to be working alongside Telford’s Find Your Talent programme, which helps to create arts opportunities for young people based throughout Telford as well as events and activities helping to bring young people and families together. Rehearsals for the piece will take place at a location in Telford, to be confirmed at a later date.

Involvement in the project costs £100 which includes all flights, meals and accommodation whilst in Canada. Applications are now being accepted by The REP. For more information or an application pack please contact Cathy Rollins, Learning and Participation Coordinator at The REP on 0121 245 2092 or email “catherine.rollins@birmingham-rep.co.uk“mailto:catherine.rollins@birmingham-rep.co.uk.

There will also be an information evening THIS EVENING (Fri 12 Feb 2010) from 7pm – 8pm at The Holiday Inn in Telford, for anyone who would like to find out more about the project.
