Ashram Housing Resident Amina Yassin got to meet stars of the stage in Birmingham – thanks to a unique partnership with Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Mrs Yassin, from Saltley, was given an exclusive backstage tour of the set of the fantastic play Rafta, Rafta and got to take tea with the stars of the show Ronny Jhutti and Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi.

Ashram and Accord Housing Associations have formed a partnership with Birmingham Repertory Theatre to encourage residents from different neighbourhoods to attend the theatre by offering tickets for just £1. Drama workshops are also being held for residents.

Mrs Yassin from Saltley was one of the first residents to attend the theatre and she said of the visit:
“It was really interesting to see the set and get an insight into how things work behind the scenes – and meeting the actors was fantastic. I think it’s a great idea to encourage more people to get out and see live theatre.”

Accord Chief Executive Dr Chris Handy said: “ A significant number of our residents are from communities where people do not traditionally enjoy the theatre. We wanted to give them the chance to experience live performances on stage.”
