Part Two of a two-part story – Find out dates and book for Part One
His Dark Materials was a triumph when it premiered at the National Theatre in 2004. This outstanding new production will captivate adults and children alike, taking them on a journey through Philip Pullman’s hugely successful epic adventure.
In Part 2 of Philip Pullman’s award-winning fantasy Lyra and Will’s life-and-death struggle against the most dangerous of enemies continues.
Lyra is kidnapped and Will sets off to rescue her with the aid of the Gallivespians – Lord Asriel’s trusted spies. When the two are reunited they must travel to the land of the dead and fight to decide the fate of Good and Evil, before reaching perhaps, the Republic of Heaven.

Hi Emily
Thanks for your message. Lyra and Will have both already been cast, along with quite a lot of the other characters. If you look under the cast tab on this page you can see who will be playing these parts.
Steph from The REP
Fantastic well done!

I felt the galivespians brought too much comedy into the play, when they were spying in what is meant to be a highly charged and dangerous environment. I felt they would be better just on screen.
Also the angels were too camp which again for many spelt laughs, rather than them portraying a very involved, deep love. Their seperataion and death in the novel in one of the most moving elements - here you didn't care about them at all.
These two elements jarred in what was otherwise a fabulous staging of very difficult subject matter. I saw the original National production and wondered how the Rep could stage it but this was handled very well indeed and seeing both plays together on Saturday made for a fantastic theatre experience

I fully enjoyed both parts and thought that Lyra and will were fantastically acted by Amy McAllister and Nick Barber. I thought that the gallivespians were a good effect as they lightened the mood from the darkness of the story line. it was one of the best plays i've seen in a long time and i hope the play continues to be as sucsessfull as it should be. Fantastic !!!!

Went to both parts Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
The production was very innovative, using a minimalist amount of props and scenery, plus a clever use of lighting to enhance the mood for the story. The cast were excellent playing multiple rolls throughout the 2 parter, and should be congratulated on a job well done.Brilliant production.

I loved it! I thought the comedy of the Gallivespians and the 'campness' of the angels brought some much needed relief after some very painful moments captured brilliantly especially Pan & Lyra's separation. Mary was one of my favourite characters from the book so it was a brave move to cut her out completely but it didn't impede my enjoyment at all. I was very excited to see the second part last night after seeing the first part before Easter and it did not disappoint! Well done to all the cast for a truly superb piece of theatre!

It's a brilliant reprensentation of the books, and excellent use of puupets for the demons. 10/10

The second part was even better. Excellent puppetry used for this one, including the small doll-like people. They played the most hilarious parts. The second part also completed the story of The Golden Compass, and it has given me an idea of what happens in the rest of the trilogy of films.
Dan Kulisa from Solihull
Amazing. Simply stunning. Theatre at its best.
Ben Goodwin from Selly Oak, Birmingham
Absolutely brilliant. We saw both parts on the same day and were not disappointed. In particular, the use of the puppets and their shape and form, were excellent, so much so, that we forgot that they were being operated by someone. It was an enthralling show, enjoyed by all the family. as usual, the Rep has lived up to its excellent reputation.

We saw both parts of the play on Sunday at the Lowry Theatre ..We were thoroughly entertained by the performance .. The whole production was wonderful and so cleverly adapted. Thank you.

Does anyone know when the auditions for Lyra are being held?
