Fancy the opportunity to rummage through The REP’s wardrobe and bag a piece of theatrical history?
We’ve created thousands of costumes over the years, from the medieval to the modern, and lots of interesting props from practical furniture to pretty paintings, and a huge selection of these items from the theatre’s many and varied shows will be available to purchase on the day.
Our wardrobe department and designers are extremely skilled and we’ve got a fantastic range of costumes on offer, including Dorothy’s dress and ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz which we’ll also be auctioning on eBay. And we’ll be selling outfits and props from many other big shows like A Christmas Carol, Peter Pan and Noises Off, which has just finished a very successful run at the theatre.
This is one of a number of events being planned throughout 2010 to mark a very special year in our history. We’re preparing for our final season in the current building before we move out to perform at a range of venues across the city between 2011 and 2013, while work on the new joint REP and Library of Birmingham development takes place.
Whether you’re in amateur dramatics, are heading to a fancy dress party soon or would just like something quirky and unique for your home then our Grand Sale of Costumes and Props is for you. It should be a fun day as well so make a date in your diary and come along to browse or to buy. You never know what you might find!

But when can the costumes be viewed and inspected, and will they be "sized" or bundled, or just as they come?

Preparations for our sale on Saturday are well underway and it's looking rather impressive . . .
In answer to some of the questions surrounding our sale on Saturday:
Access to some of our costumes is now available via e-bay. Just click on the link attached to the information above.
The sale items will be priced and sized as much as we possibly can, but remember, these are all working garments that will have played their part in REP productions over the years. Some will have been altered to fit the purpose.
As for whether or not we'll do this again? I don't feel it will happen again in the immediate future as The REP's current building will be closing in 2011 after our Christmas Show, The Secret Garden.
We'll be producing and presenting an exciting programme of shows across the city after that.

Our costumes were previously available for hire via Costumia (http://www.costumia.co.uk/index.html). Since the Grand Sale, we've substantially slimmed down our store of costumes, but I'll pass your request on.
