Enjoy is a rarely performed gem by one of the theatre’s greatest observers of the English way of life.
Written in 1980, Alan Bennett set this dark comedy in his home town of Leeds where an ageing couple are living in the city’s last back-to-back. With the demolition of the area in progress, Wilf and Connie are soon to be re-housed in a brand new maisonette with a waste disposal unit and non-slip vinyl flooring! When a sociologist comes to observe them in their daily life, normality takes a decidedly atypical turn…
With its cast of fifteen extraordinary characters and a stunning visual denoument, Enjoy promises to be an absolute theatrical treat.
Alison Steadman is one of our best-loved and most prolific actresses. On stage, she created the role of the monstrous Beverly in Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party, and starred in The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice for which she won an Olivier Award. Her films include Shirley Valentine, Clockwise and Life Is Sweet. TV appearances include Fat Friends, The Singing Detective, Pride And Prejudice and the recent award-winning Gavin & Stacey.

Enjoy by Alan Bennett was absolute genius! He has the most amazing way with words. We were so lucky to have booked early & had superb seats right in the front so missed nothing of the wonderful acting. The whole play was a masterpiece from beginning to end. More Alan Bennett please!!!

Went to see Enjoy whilst visiting Birmingham. What a wonderful performance by all. The whole cast were wonderful and the sentiment expressed by Alan Bennett really reached places we all try to supress. There was much laughter and many lumps in the throat. A wonderful night out!

What a blissful combination - Alison Steadman and Alan Bennett. Alison brought such reality to the character of Connie in a wonderful and memorable performance which I cannot recommend highly enough. Bennett's writing, as always, brilliantly observed and served well by this strong cast of actors.

What a fantastic play. You can almost hear Alan Bennet saying the words. Some of the lines, as well as being funny, were a reminder of some of the comments my mother used to say. Alison Steadman is a wonderful actress and it was great to see the Rep with a full house. Keep bringing new plays to Birmingham we love them!

Last night I went with 9 friends to see Enjoy and I must say that we haven't laughed so much for a long, long time. What a combination - Alison Steadmen (mu heroine) and Alan Bennett. His throwaway lines and observations on the lives of ordinary people are incomparable. Fantastic, wonderful, brilliant. More please!

'Enjoy' was wonderful. Having played Connie/Mam many years ago I was especially interested in the production, and was not disappointed. Luckily the friends I persuaded to join me agreed that it was an excellent play, perfectly presented, with Alison Steadman's versatility a revelation.

I've just seen this show in Bath before it comes to Birmingham! and its AMAZING!! Almost didn't get a ticket as there was a queue for return tickets but definately not a show to miss. Haven't laughed so much in ages!
