Toby co-founded Trestle Theatre Company in 1981 and was their Artistic Director until he left in 2004. Other recent work has included the State Theatre of Istanbul, West Sussex Youth Theatre and OnO Theatre Company. In Autumn 2009 he founded META MORPHO – a new company striving to bridge the gap between the expectations and experiences of theatre and cinema audiences, by creating work that is rich in narrative, visual aesthetics and a sense of fun.

Toby is an expert in mask theatre and and his book ‘The Mask Handbook: a Practical Guide’ was published by Routledge in 2006. For Process 2010 he will deliver a master-class in mask theatre, providing an insight into the history and techniques involved in this key means of expression.
