The Main Stage

The Main Stage is the larger of The REP’s two theatres, seating a maximum of 824 people. The stage is large and epic in proportion, and the auditorium is similar to a Greek amphitheatre, with no aisles, balconies, pillars or boxes. Consequently, all seats in the house generally provide excellent viewing and acoustics. The seats are covered in leather, and provide good legroom and back support.

This theatre houses a rich and varied programme of work, most of which is produced by The REP, or in partnership with other regional producing theatres. It also houses the work of some visiting companies in order to complement the overall programme. The programme is generally contemporary, with a large story-based family musical every Christmas, a strong focus on new writing and contemporary adaptations, cultural diversity and the development of work for families and young people. Main Stage productions regularly transfer to other regional producing theatres and the West End, or go on national tour.
