Treyc Cohen
Treyc Cohen is a 27 year old singer and performer from Tamworth in Staffordshire.
Treyc auditioned for the 2009 series of ITV’s X-Factor and got through to the final twenty four in the over 25s category, who were invited to Simon Cowell’s judges’ home in Los Angeles but she wasn’t selected for the live TV shows.
In 2010, Treyc returned to the show, determined and much stronger. She sailed through her first audition with her rendition of You’ve Got The Love made popular recently by Florence + the Machine. Her boot camp audition performance was just as strong with her interpretation of Radiohead’s Creep.
Making it through to the final round of auditions as one of the top eight girls, Treyc sang Ave Maria but wasn’t picked to be in the initial top twelve acts. However, she was brought back by judge Cheryl Cole as her wildcard act for the live finals.
Her rendition of the U2 song One in the first live show brought her rave comments including Cowell saying: “I am amazed that we overlooked you in this competition. I didn’t like what you’re wearing, but honestly that’s not an issue, because by a far mile, that was the best vocal for the entire competition thus far”.
Treyc was tipped a favourite in the early stages of the ITV1 competition and finished as the tenth place finalist on X-Factor’s 2010 series.
Playing the role of Dorothy in the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse co-production of The Wiz marks Treyc Cohen’s professional debut in musical theatre. Following the opening of The Wiz at the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham this June, Treyc will travel with the show to West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds later in the month.
