Matthew’s current theatrical projects are: Boeing Boeing on Broadway, (six Tony nominations including Best Director) following on from its successful run at the Comedy Theatre West End and Olivier nomination for best revival; The Lord Of The Rings at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, the theatrical adaptation of Tolkien’s classic tale, which Matthew directed and co-wrote, and Speed-The-Plow at the Old Vic.

Other theatre credits include: Buried Child (National Theatre); Endgame (Albery Theatre); Tell me on a Sunday (Gielgud Theatre); Our House (Cambridge Theatre) which won the 2003 Olivier Award for Best Musical, The Winter’s Tale (Royal Shakespeare Company Stratford and at the Roundhouse); Follies (Broadway, five Tony nominations); Life X3 (National Theatre, Old Vic, UK tour and Broadway); True West (Donmar Warehouse, Broadway) for which he recived a Tony Award nomination, The Unexpected Man (Royal Shakespeare Company, West End, Broadway); Art (Broadway, West End Los Angeles); for which he won an Olivier and Tony Award nomination for Best Director and an Olivier and Tony Award for Best Play, Hamlet (Royal Shakespeare Company and US tour), Peter Pan, Fiddler On The Roof, The Plough And The Stars, Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, Death Of A Salesman, Betrayal, Life Is A Dream and Henry V (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Volpone (National Theatre) for both of which he won Evening Standard Awards forBest Director and Much Ado About Nothing (West End) for which he won the Globe Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer.
Opera credits include: Cosi Fan Tutte (English National Opera); Falstaff (English National Opera); Falstaff (Opera North); The Rake’s Progress (Welsh National Opera and the Royal Opera House) and Troilus And Cressida (Opera North).
